Mark Babyak
Mr. Babyak recently retired from the position of Supervisory Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation after more than twenty-nine years of service. During that time he developed an expertise in several different areas. These areas include security and executive protection, weapons of mass destruction, forensics, and defensive tactics. For his efforts and accomplishments in these areas he has received several letters of commendation from the Director of the FBI, the Award for Public Service from the United States Department of Justice for his role in a joint FBI/CIA operation, and recognition from DEA and the US Secret Service. Mr. Babyak worked most recently as the Program Manager of the FBI’s Defensive Tactics Program at Quantico, Virginia. With more than six years in that position at Quantico, he has trained literally thousands of FBI Special Agents as well as numerous law enforcement officers from various other agencies in both basic and advanced aspects of defensive tactics and close quarter battle (CQB). He created much of the curriculum that is currently used to instruct all Special Agent Trainees. He also provided training for various specialized groups and programs. This necessitated creating a curriculum tailored to the specific goals and needs of each group. Among those groups were the FBI’s Special Surveillance Group (SSG), Defensive Tactics Instructors Program, the Legal Attaché Security Awareness Program, Undercover Training Program and the Special Detail Unit. Mr. Babyak holds a 6th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has trained in several martial arts disciplines since he began his formal training in 1968. As Operations Program Manager for the Hazardous Materials Response Unit (HMRU), Mr. Babyak coordinated the FBI’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) response in the form of HMRU assets with other federal, state, and local resources. He was responsible for the logistical and operational aspects of deployments, multi-agency field training exercises, and pre-deployments for large scale Special Events such as the World Energy Conference, the Nike World Games, two Superbowls, and the NATO 50th Anniversary Summit held in Washington, DC. Prior to each Special Event, he was responsible for assessing the vulnerability of each site to chemical, biological, or nuclear threats and creating operational and response plans based on this assessment and available intelligence. Mr. Babyak developed considerable expertise in the area of security and executive protection as both an operational member of the Special Detail Unit (SDU) and later, as Supervisor of the SDU. He is experienced in identifying and addressing security and logistical concerns encountered during both foreign and domestic travel, conducting site surveys, setting up command posts, and developing operational plans. As the SDU Supervisor he supervised an operational unit of ten Special Agents and three support personnel and was responsible for all aspects of the protection of the Director of the FBI. As a Forensic Examiner in the FBI Laboratory, Mr. Babyak conducted examinations in thousands of cases and organized and presented evidence and testimony as a recognized expert witness in well over 200 trials in both federal and local courts. He wrote hundreds of reports detailing the results of highly technical examinations, investigated numerous crime scenes and supervised others in the proper collection of probative evidence. Since retiring, Mr. Babyak has provided security work for Manis Investigations, Inc., Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, and Global Strategies, Inc. Herndon, VA. He serves as a Director of Operations for Global Security Services, Annapolis, MD and provided his expertise in Defensive Tactics as a consultant to TSA. Sheriff Ken Campbell Mr. Campbell is the current Sheriff of Boone County Indiana. He has over 25 years of law enforcement experience including a wide range of activates involving firearms training. He is also an adjunct instructor at Gunsite Academy, Inc in Paulden AZ. Current duties include Operations supervisor, FTO, Special Response Team Commander (SWAT) and founding member of multi-agency team; Hostage Negotiator, Incident Commander and Chief Rangemaster. Jeffrey Cahill Cooke, M.D., F.A.C.S. Dr. Cooke is an A-Class Cardio Vascular Surgeon with a rare background in firearms and defensive tactics training. A General Vascular Surgeon from 1993 to present day, Dr Cooke is additionally a specialist in Diagnostic & Interventional Vascular Radiology. Currently practicing at St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel St. Vincent Hospital, The Heart Center of Indiana and the Methodist Hospital in Indiana, Dr Cooke holds updated certifications from the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and General Vascular Surgery w/ research appointments from Case Western Reserve University and Massachusetts General Hospital. Greg Dossey Greg Dossey is a California POST Regional Law Enforcement Academy Coordinator. He currently works in the Central Coast of California. He retired from the Los Angeles Police Department as a Sergeant after 28 years of service. He was the Officer in Charge of the Arrest and Control Training Unit when he retired but has worked in most areas of uniformed law enforcement including patrol, gangs, watch commander, training, etc.,. He previously worked for the Monterey Park Police Department. Greg is a Federal Court Qualified Expert Witness on police Use of Force. He has served for several years as a consultant to California POST on both officer physical fitness and Arrest and Control Techniques and additionally as an advisor on Use-of-Force issues. He also served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Physical Restraint and Self Defense techniques. Mr. Dossey has received several commendations and awards from the Govenor of California, the City of Los Angeles and California State POST for his contributions to law enforcement training. He has been featured in Time Magazine, The Discovery Channel, the Los Angeles Times, and several other news media sources for the development of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Arrest and Control Curriculum and Training. Greg is additionally certified by CA POST as an EVOC instructor, Arrest and Control Instructor, Firearms Instructor, physical fitness instructor and by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Defensive Tactics Instructor. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman Lt. Col. Dave Grossman is a West Point psychology professor, Professor of Military Science, and an Army Ranger who is the author of On Combat, On Killing, and Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill, co-authored with Gloria DeGaetano. Col. Grossman’s research was cited by President Clinton in a national address after the Littleton, Colorado school shootings, and he has testified before the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Congress, and numerous state legislatures. He has served as an expert witness and consultant in state and Federal courts, to include UNITED STATES vs. TIMOTHY MCVEIGH. He helped train mental health professionals after the Jonesboro school shootings, and he was also involved in counseling or court cases in the aftermath of the Paducah, Springfield, and Littleton school shootings. He has been called upon to write the entry on “Aggression and Violence” in the Oxford Companion to American Military History, three entries in the Academic Press Encyclopedia of Violence, Peace and Conflict and has presented papers before the national conventions of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. His research was cited by the President of the United states. Today he is the director of the Killology Research Group (www.killology.com), and in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks he is has written and spoken extensively on the terrorist threat, with articles published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Civil Policy and many leading law enforcement journals, and he has been on the road almost 300 days a year, training elite military and law enforcement organizations worldwide about the reality of combat. Andrew G. Podolak Mr. Podolak most recently served as the Vice President of Global Options Inc. His primary functions were in developing and overseeing the operations of the Executive Protection unit as well as assisting the Consulting unit. He has spoken at international and national conventions on workplace violence, executive protection and security planning: assessments, audits and crisis management. He possesses a Level III Certification in Homeland Security by ACFEI. Mr. Podolak is the former Senior Vice President of Global Strategies Inc. and Director of Operations for USSC, Inc in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Podolak oversaw the operations of all the operations at both locations. He was primarily involved in executive protection and consulting matters relating to investigations, security surveys, crisis management plans, security training and seminars. Prior to coming to USSC, Inc., Mr. Podolak was Managing Director for Vance Education and Training. Mr. Podolak managed a staff of instructors who provide training in security officer procedures and methods, executive protection, protective and evasive driving, control tactics, surveillance and surveillance detection, introductory and advanced firearms, custom and specialized mobile training, as well as supervisory training, workplace violence and behavioral characteristics. Prior to initiating and managing the Training Division, Mr. Podolak managed the Executive Protection Division for five years. The executive protection teams provided security to CEO’s, Diplomats and Celebrities in 89 different countries throughout the world. Prior to joining Vance, Mr. Podolak was a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigations for twelve years including eight years as a Supervisory Special Agent. He specialized in investigations of white-collar crimes, public corruption, and government fraud. He led investigations of mail and wire fraud, bank embezzlements, interstate transportation of stolen goods, White Slave Trade Act violations, and crimes on government reservations. Mildred K. O'Linn Mildred K. O'Linn, a licensed attorney in California, Texas and Ohio, received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law in Akron, Ohio (J.D. 1986) and her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the Honors College, Kent State University in Kent, Ohio (B.S., cum laude, 1982). Ms. O'Linn is a partner with Manning & Marder, Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, LLP and is currently based in Los Angeles where she is a trial attorney specializing in the defense of governmental agencies and private employers and personnel in civil litigation concentrating in civil rights and employment discrimination. Formerly, Ms. O'Linn was a police officer, field training officer, academy director, accreditation manager, Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police and chairperson of unarmed self-defense training for peace officer training for the State of Ohio. She has been certified as an instructor in numerous areas as police defensive tactics, and police physical fitness. Before moving to California in 1991, she served as the Legal and Technical Advisor to the Law Enforcement Television Network. Ms. O'Linn is also a Personal Protection Specialist called upon frequently to provide protective services for high profile dignitaries across the world. Ms. O'Linn is a nationally recognized speaker instructing frequently in seminars on sexual harassment, civil liability, use of force, expert witness preparation and expert witness testimony. Ms. O'Linn is one of the founders of the American Society for Law Enforcement Training and between 1987 and 2001 served as the Legal Advisor, Treasurer and as a member of the Executive Board of Directors for the organization. Rogers Owner, E.A.G Inc, a Department of Defense Trading Partner (TPIN available upon request) since 1992, Rogers provides Weapons and Tactics Training to DoD assets to include 1st Force Reconnaissance Company, I-MEF G7 Special Operations Training Group (SOTG) Detachment 1, MCSOCCOM, JSOC and other SOF; Special Missions, Special Operations Forced at Natick and MARCORSYSCOM providing New Equipment Team Training. Since 1993- today, Patrick is on staff as a Senior Rangemaster at Gunsite Academy where he conducts training in pistol, rifle, shotgun, carbine, tactics and team tactics for those DoD and non DoD members involved in CT, police and civilians authorized to attend training at this facility. He additionally is a Contributing Editor, SWAT Magazine and a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for evaluating US Department of State Anti Terrorism Assistance Program (ATAP), including Close Quarter Battle (CQB), Protective Operations, and Police Officer Survival. Operating as a Contract Officer for an Other Government Agency (OGA) involved in Counter Terrorism and Intelligence. Rogers was responsible organizing and providing training for National Level Teams involved in Hostage Rescue, Close Quarter Battle, Protective Operations, and for others involved in Counter Terrorist (CT) Operations, Direct Action Operations, Operations in Denied Areas, Air Marshal Operations as well as other related tasks. He was additionally responsible R&D and T&E for equipment, and have extensive experience in training allied foreign assets. Retired as Sergeant working for New York City Police Department from 1973 – 1993, Rogers served in Patrol, Anti Crime Unit, Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit and as an Investigator in Central Robbery Division, which investigated pattern armed robberies and provided stakeout details. Patrol Supervisor, Anti Crime Supervisor, Detective Sergeant- Office of Chief of Detectives, Hostage Recovery Team, Technical Assistance Response Unit and Kidnap Task Force. He received the New York Police Foundation Award for Excellence in 1989 and an additional 54 awards for bravery, including the Medal of Valor in 1987. Retired as Chief Warrant Officer USMC/ USMCR Patrick Rogers served 1963-1997 where is duties included Tank Crewman, Section Leader, Acting Platoon Sergeant/ Plt Commander, Reconnaissance Section Leader, Infantryman, Scout/Sniper Team Member/ Section Leader, Chief Scout, Operations Chief, NBC NCO, NBC Officer, Intelligence Officer. Notable: Combat tour RVN, 1965-1966, Intelligence Officer, Foreign Material Acquisition and Exploitation Unit, 1985-1990. FMAEU was tasked by Defense Intelligence Agency to acquire items of interest from foreign military, conduct sophisticated analysis, and disseminate results to DoD and other qualified organizations. Rogers worked extensively with sister services, other DoD and non DoD agencies involved in Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, and friendly foreign military and intelligence agencies. Additionally he designed and implemented a course for Operations in denied areas and was responsible for all Weapons and Tactics Training. During Desert Shield/ Desert Storm Rogers was tasked to develop and implement an upgraded Combat Pistol program. Ed Stock Currently the nation’s top anti-terrorist Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) expert, Mr. Stock is assigned to the Special Operations Division, Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) where is a Detective, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, Breacher, Firearms instructor and SWAT Team member with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and has been so employed for 34 years. In addition to teaching for his department he is also a senior-level instructor for numerous other state and federal agencies, as well as being the senior range master at Gunsite Academy. Mr. Stock served six years in the USMC Reserves, with rank of SGT, twenty years in the United States Army, 297th M.I. Co. S.F. (airborne) as a Counter Intelligence Officer and an Order of Battle Officer (CWO-4, Warrant Officer), thirteen years in the United States Army Military Intelligence Units. Mr. Stock’s last tour of active duty was with DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency). He has most recently returned from a deployment in Iraq were he ran classified missions for the U.S. Army and taught weapons classes to U.S. and foreign troops. He was on active duty for one year, of which he spent seven months in Iraq as the Team Chief of a DIA/ DoD Classified Operation from which he garnished first-hand experience and intelligence from the field specializing in IEDs and Homicide Bombings among other highly-classified anti-terrorism components. He also ran also ran a Personal Security Detail Team in Iraq and taught weapons courses in-theater for the US Army. Mr. Stock currently possesses a T/S clearance and has worked numerous operations within the US and abroad. He is currently an internationally recognized authority on the subjects of Suicide Bombers, Booby Trapping, Explosives Recognition, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), IED/Contraband Concealment and Convoy Security.
